PRCR Advisory Board and Committees

2006 Goals

Public Awareness

Providing information to the public about services and facilities is critical to the success of PRCR. The Board provides input and opportunities throughout the year for presenting information to citizens about PRCR programs and facilities.  

            Athletic Committee

• Help staff with publicizing ideas for games and events (Cary News, Banner on Town Website, email groups).

            Cultural Arts Committee

• Review information on Town website and provide input for improving ease of use.

• Look for ways to encourage implementation of a broader Events Calendar on the Town website.

• Investigate possibilities for a central information kiosk, perhaps in conjunction with a centralized box office (could be part of new facilities planning).

• Look for new ways to use BUD TV to promote events/programs.        

Greenways Committee

• Work w/staff to improve greenway info on web page (maps, current projects, master  plan)

• Review new Bike/Hike Map and make recommendations regarding the graphic display of greenway trails.

• Set up a booth at the Cary Road Race in April to distribute greenway maps and answer questions.

• Set up informational tables along one of the greenways to hand out maps and answer questions about the greenways.

Teen Committee

• Develop recommendations for a process for promoting volunteer opportunities to the public.

• Review and suggest updates to the Marketing Plan for Teen Scene.

Public Input

The Town values public input in decision making.  The Board provides citizen input in an advisory capacity regarding various PRCR issues.

Athletic Committee

• Review baseball affiliations and sanctioning.

• Review player assignment related to geographic location & distribution.

• Provide feedback to coaches after evaluations have been conducted and reviewed.

• Invite parents to attend special request meetings.

            Cultural Arts Committee

• Provide input on various cultural arts programs, making suggestions for new performers, new program ideas, etc.

• Provide representation to the Festivals Committee and the Koka Booth Amphitheatre Advisory Committee.

• Look for ways to solicit direct public input at various events/activities.   

Greenways Committee

• Develop dialogue with adjacent community’s comparable advisory or greenway committees for the purpose of developing additional trail connections to adjacent greenway systems

Teen Committee

• Develop a proposal for the committee to review certain Town Council proposals and issues and provide feedback from a teen perspective.

• Develop a process for providing input from the Teen Advisory Committee and Teen Council regarding Town government.

• Formulate a process for getting ideas and information from other youth groups outside the Teen Council.

Participation  

Cary PRCR has a strong tradition of volunteerism, and the Board members are typically the leaders in volunteerism through support at many PRCR programs and special events.  The Board encourages volunteerism and annually recognizes and shows appreciation of volunteers at the annual Volunteer Family Day and Volunteer Awards Banquet. 

Athletic Committee

• Serve on sub-committee to review baseball affiliations and sanctioning

• Serve on sub-committee to review player assignment related to geographic location & distribution

• Help staff conduct Team Placements

• Attendance and participation in Special Request Meetings

            Cultural Arts Committee

• Investigate mechanisms to expand public participation in various programs/events.

• Research other possible groups that may be looking for new service areas (school groups, Scouts, etc.).

• Gain greater understanding of current participation levels and capacity for growth.

• Track committee volunteer hours.         

Greenways Committee

• Assist staff in resolving remaining issues to implement “Adopt a Greenway” program.  Present to Advisory Board as potential program.

• Coordinate a planting project along one of the greenways for the Fall of 2006.

Teen Committee

• Create a process for Teen Council representatives on other committees to share information with the Teen Advisory Committee.
  

Performance Measures

The review and development of meaningful performance measures is a major project for PRCR this year.  Last year’s fees and charges analysis provided detailed data that can be utilized as a basis for establishing benchmarks and goals.  The Board will provide the citizen input component of the development of performance measures.

Athletic Committee

• Advise staff on coaches training, evaluations and performance feedback

            Cultural Arts Committee

• Work with staff to develop new, meaningful performance measures.  Possible areas include: demographic factors, diversity/variety (includes age, activity groupings, cultural backgrounds, price, etc), capacity, rate of involvement, impact on community, volunteers.

Greenways Committee

• The Greenway Committee will work with staff to review current performance measures and make recommendations for future information to track.

Teen Committee

• Develop a mechanism for reporting volunteer hours.

Priority Setting

The Board and Committees annually set work plan priorities in order to focus their efforts.  The Board reviews budget information annually and advises staff on priorities for park development and other ‘big picture’ budget issues as needed.  The Board reviews development plans and makes recommendations per the Land Dedication Ordinance based on the priorities set within the Master Plan.

Athletic Committee

• Help staff develop process for player assignment related to geographic location & distribution.

            Cultural Arts Committee

• Review various cultural arts programs and provide staff with observations, recommendations, evaluation.

Greenways Committee

• Assist staff in setting priorities on greenway projects.

• Review/Provide input on greenway crossings

• Develop a Black Creek Greenway master plan

• Assist staff in review of proposed Sign Plan.

Teen Committee

• Improve attendance in teen classes.

• Increase programs for ages 10-14.
