ISAB 2003 GOALS

1. Give feedback to staff on new Web search engine - HIGH.

2. Give feedback to staff on draft plan for fall Mega Forum - HIGH (completed).

3. Give feedback to staff on new planning/development activities educational materials - pamphlets, video - HIGH.

4. Review and comment on Web Overhaul 4 - HIGH (projected completion date August 2003).

5. Explore additional ways to increase awareness of electronic mailing list service - MEDIUM.

a.) Possible annual mailing to apartment owners advising them of EMLS.

6. Explore additional ways to obtain citizen feedback on town's information dissemination efforts - MEDIUM.

a.) Have manned booth at Lazy Daze and Spring Daze.

b.) Conduct web based poll during the year in which we do not have our biennial survey.

c.) Determine whether it is feasible to make 24 Hour Town Hall proactive by providing a way for callers to comment upon or grade the effectiveness/helpfulness of the information retrieved.

7. Explore methods to further improve communications on Cary recycling opportunities - LOW.

8. Work more closely with Council Liaison in order to ascertain that we are up to date on what projects Council would like us to consider - HIGH.

9. Preview and advise on GIS update - HIGH.

10. Continue to explore having more boards on Cary TV - LOW.

11. Learn more about Wi-Fi technology and its feasibility of being able to cover the entire city - currently one tower covers two miles and Cary's 90 sq. miles would require 45 towers. Is this financially feasible? Monitor tech developments in this area as to consider possible town applications, and determine what is the role of government in promoting or implementing such a system.

12. Determine from staff if Citizen's School of Government was successful, and if so, explore the feasibility and methods of expansion in addition to town campus, such as local schools, HOA's clubs, and/or other groups as ongoing citizen's awareness program  - MEDIUM.

13. Explore the possibility of having a Cary HOA registry and having all HOA's provide links from their websites to the Cary website - MEDIUM.

a.) Possibly have one of our meetings devoted to Cary HOA's and invite all their presidents/officers to join us and present their members' information concerns.

14. Investigate possibility of having a streaming or delayed Web video feed of Cary TV available on town web site, for citizens who either don't have cable or who have satellite TV - LOW (staff research).

15. Explore methods of informing citizens about alternate forms of transportation other than automobile - MEDIUM.

16. Reassess the need and viability of communications in another language, determining who are the appropriate sources of information (will be addressed briefly in September meeting if time permits, if not, it will be addressed in October)  - MEDIUM.
