Old/New Business:
- Discuss green street signs with Mike Bajorek, PW Director
Mike Bajorek stated that
feedback from citizens indicates that road signage is difficult
to follow and see, if present. Mike Bajorek noted that there are
four different types of signage 1) Overhead signs, 2) Over-sized
signs on wooden poles, 3) Over-sized signs on decorative or
re-enforced poles, and 4) Street Ahead signs (noted that City of
Greensboro has these). The most visible signs are the overhead
signs at intersections of main thoroughfares. Seven years ago
Cary and the NCDOT worked out getting overhead signs on the
street light wires. Through the years and the storms, these
signs twist and turn causing mis-guided directions and tear the
wiring causing street malfunctions. Another alternative is the
mast arm sign with 12-inch lettering, 72-inch wide sign. We are
currently trying this type of sign out at the intersection of
Cary Parkway and Evans Road. Another alternative at major
intersections is a canter leaver bracket hooked onto the wooden
signal holder at Maynard and Kildaire Farm Roads with 8-inch
lettering, 42-inch wide sign. Cary does not maintain it's own
traffic signals, NCDOT maintains the traffic signals. In some
larger cities they maintain their own traffic signals and the
signage that may be present. The members of the board agreed
that the street signs should not be all caps in the same size.
Words in all caps may be easier to actually see; however, they
tend to be more difficult to read. Examples: Hickorywood,
HICKORYWOOD, HICKORYWOOD,
etc…
The Town is planning to put up signs for shopping centers.
2. Discuss streamlining ideas
With the meeting running short of time, this item was carried
over to the next regular meeting. Members have been looking at
other local governments that have audio/video on their website.
Susan Moran asked the board to gather some recommendations and
to prioritize them for staff to be able to prepare a
presentation on this audio/video idea.
- Update on last month’s web
needs
GIS mapping layers will be on the web in the next month or
so. It will go directly to the web without ISAB review to
expedite the process, but members will be able to make
suggestions to improve it. Search engine has been altered and
upgraded to be faster and more topic-oriented. Direct links for
emailing all Town Council, Boards and Commissions members have
been added to each Town Council, Boards and Commissions roster
pages. Direct links to homepage, back to the top, and
Boards/Commissions page have been added to the ISAB agenda and
minutes pages.

Member Comments:
Bob Hickey would like the PRCR
department to make schedules for the parents of the children on
league teams and also to put these schedules up on the web for
people to be able to print and view. He stated that he asked the
personnel at Bond Park Community Center if they were having
practice there to night and the personnel was completely oblivious
as to what is going on. Bob Hickey also mentioned that, at this
new facility, parking was very limited.
