II.

Approval of Minutes of the July 27th, 2000 meeting:
The minutes of the July 27th meeting were unanimously approved.

III.

Citizen Comments:
Carol Aupperle emailed a request for citizens to be able to email a Town Board/Commission group (group meaning each board/commission member). Citizens have on numerous occasions perceived the Government Access Channel to be a Public Access Channel. Citizens have commented about being able to cast on a Public Access Channel.

IV.

Old/New Business:

  1. Discuss GIS mapping layers:
The group agreed to get all the core information presented by Mike Mull at the last meeting up and on the web as soon as possible. Raleigh and Wake County are going in together to get their GIS information on the web, which will affect Cary since we are tied in with them. An internal group including the ISAB group will be reviewing and testing Cary’s site before it goes onto our website.
  2. Discuss and vote on web objectives and actions:
    a. The group suggested a new search engine because the current search engine 1) takes entirely too long, 2) cannot search for specific dates or time frames, and 3) cannot search for specific types of documents. The current search engine actually searches the entire website.

    b. The group suggested that the website needs to be easier to use—topic based.

    c. The Council meeting minutes have different formatting styles. The documents need to be consistent from one meeting to the next.

    d. Adding a photo on the homepage.

    e. Changing the information on the splash page to main events for the week, What's New, News Releases, This Week, etc (perhaps in a frame)

    f. Drop down menu box on every page for easy navigation.

    g. Instead of typing the entire email address, just type the person's name and make it link to the email address. (the same way Outlook works) Also give direct email addresses for each department and not the one email to townofcary.org that has to be routed.

    h. Use dots instead of dashes in new email addresses.

    i. Make a link for citizens to be able to email any and all members of the Town Boards/Commissions.

    j. Give citizens the option and the choice to receive information via mail, hard copy, email, other electronic, disk, etc. and also give citizens the access, public access to a terminal for their ease of getting information.

    k. Make an easy, user-friendly web site for children to be able to use and navigate.
  1. Discussions regarding the streaming video and audio ideas were tabled for the next meeting.

V.

Member Comments:
Suggestion to make the green street signs larger and bigger to make them easier to read going down the road. Mike Bajorek will come to the next ISAB meeting to update the group on what the Town is doing about street signs.

VI.

Adjournment:
The meeting adjourned at 6:30PM.
