MINUTES

Thursday, June 22, 2000, 5:00 PM

I.

Members present are: David Forvendel, Jeff Gillette, Jim Jensen, Robert Keely, Sandy Gottlieb, and Bob Hickey.

Members absent are: Cliff Barnes, John Bennett, Jo Rathgeber and Lester Thomas.

Staff present are: Susan Moran and Neil Ghodke.

II.

The minutes of the May 25^th, 2000 meeting were unanimously approved.

III.

There were no citizens present and no members had any comments from citizens.

IV.

1. Presentation by Neil Ghodke on the top 10 most hit pages on our website:
   This report changes periodically. To view our Web Report click here:

   The board proposed possible web enhancement ideas:
   a. Increased efficiency of the search engine - Target searches to just part of data and not search everything all of the time.
   b. Add content geared towards children - How the town works, etc. in words that a child can understand and relate to. (We have to remember that a citizen does not just mean homeowner.)
   c. Add more community based information - More about what is happening around town, parks and rec. league scores, etc.
   d. Add dates to What’s New items.
   e. Add date of last modification and a contact person for each page.
   f. Add email links to departments.
   
   For further study before making recommendations, Streaming Audio and Video on the website: Each member is to look for examples of local governments around the country that are using these technologies. Agenda items for next meeting is to look at: How Cary can use these technologies? What the cost benefit of doing it would be?
2. Discuss and vote on web objectives and actions:
   This item is moved to the July 27^th meeting.
3. Discuss and vote on GIS mapping layers:
   This item is moved to the July 27^th meeting, at which time, Mike Mull will be showing board members the different GIS layers in the Technology Services Training Room.
