DRAFT MINUTES

Thursday, May 6, 2004, 5:30 p.m.

Temporary Council Chambers, Herb Young Community Center

 

I.

Introduction of Members:

Members present were Jo Rathgeber, Robert Keely, Kelly Commiskey, Jamie Cuticchia, Michele Hillison, Anne Fitzpatrick, John Fitzpatrick, and Eugene Murray.  Members Kirk Keller and Dana Ellington were absent.  

Council Member Julie Robison and staff members Susan Moran, Lana Hygh, and Roger May were present.  

Mr. Jim Crawford, Vice President of Business Development for Wind Channel Communications of Raleigh, NC, was also present.

 

II.

Approval of Minutes:

The board unanimously recommended that the April 1, 2004 drafts minutes be amended and reviewed at the June 3, 2004 meeting.

III.

Citizen Comments:

  1. Michele Hillison – suggested staff add traffic signal ownership information to the Town’s Web site.
  2. Robert Keely – inquired about the responsibility of roadway maintenance and commended PRCR staff regarding notice of cancellations.
  3. Kelly Commiskey – commented on plane crash aftermath and commended Susan Moran and staff for an excellent job in disseminating information to the public.
  4. Anne Fitzpatrick – commented that Spring Daze was fabulous and that the Town’s bicycle maps are fantastic.

 

IV.

Old/New Business:

1.    Lana Hygh, Assistant to the Town Manager, presented information about the Town’s School of Government .  At the conclusion of her presentation, Ms. Hygh entertained questions from the Board.

2.    Subcommittee members Kelly Commiskey and Michele Hillison presented their report on Wi-Fi technology to the Board, recommending that the Town provide a Web page listing of all free hotspots in the Town of Cary .  In addition, businesses would promote the Town of Cary Wi-Fi Network through the use of its logo either in advertising or through a decal on their front doors.  After lengthy discussion, staff recommended to the Board that the subcommittee present its report to the Town’s Economic Development Commission at its next meeting or the available time.  A motion was made and seconded in favor of presenting this information to the Economic Development Commission, and it passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 7 p.m.

The next ISAB meeting will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at 5:30 p.m. in the Temporary Council Chambers at the Herb Young Community Center , 101 Wilkinson Avenue , Cary .
