Thursday, May 1, 2003, 5:07 p.m.

Building A Front Conference Room

I.

Introduction of Members:
Members Jo Rathgeber, Rob Deal, Ed Quick, Anne Fitzpatrick, Rob Rusczak, Jeff Gillette, Robert Keely, and John Fitzpatrick were present.  Members Eugene Murray and Geiselle Thompson were absent.  Staff present: Susan Moran and Roger May.
 

II.

Approval of Minutes:
The board unanimously recommended approval of the
April 3, 2003 minutes as written.

III.

Citizen Comments:
Member Jeff Gillette noted that he attended a minority community meeting last week.  Several issues were addresses including an interest in documentation related to affordable housing and transportation (C-Tran).  Chair Jo Rathgeber requested that Mr. Gillette obtain a copy of the report of the community meeting once it becomes available.
 

Chair Jo Rathgeber noted that she visited her homeowner’s association and its members were pleased with knowing she was part of the ISAB.

Old/New Business: 
1.  2003 Goals and Objectives.

Note: the numbers listed below correspond with the Board’s 2003 Goals and Objectives.  Each item has been flagged with a priority (high, medium, or low).

6. Medium – (rewording) explore additional ways to obtain citizen feedback on town's information dissemination efforts.  Possible methods:  a). Manned booth at Lazy Daze and Spring Daze.  b). Conduct web based poll during the year in which we do not have our biennial survey.  c).  Determine with staff if it is feasible/desirable to make 24hr. Town Hall proactive by providing way for callers to comment upon or grade the effectiveness/helpfulness of the information retrieved.

12. Medium – (rewording) determine from staff if Citizen's School of Government was successful, and if so, explore feasibility and methods of expansion in addition to town campus, such as local schools, HOA's clubs, and/or other groups as ongoing citizen's awareness program.

13. Medium – (rewording) explore possibility of having Cary HOA registry and having all HOA's provide link from their website to the Cary website.

15. Medium (change wording – explore methods of informing citizens about alternate forms of transportation other than automobile)

16. Medium (action item rather than a goal) rewording - reassess the need and viability of communications in another language, determining who are the appropriate sources of information (will be addressed briefly in September meeting if time permits, if not, it will be addressed in October).
