IV.

Old/New Business:

The board discussed search engine issues with the Technology Services Applications Manager, Mike Mull. Key issues that were discussed are as follows:

  • Methods used to index information on the search engine
  • Possibly "piggy-backing" with a larger, more established search engine company (i.e. Yahoo!, Google) as opposed to creating a new search engine from scratch
  • Style and consistency among the information indexed on the search engine
  • More specificity on search returns; returns are too broad and nonspecific

In addition to these search engine issues, the board also discussed streaming audio. Members stated that they have received very positive comments from Cary citizens on the Town's streaming audio of Council meetings, Planning and Development Committee meetings, etc. Members recommended that staff look at the possibility of marking individual pieces of audio from meetings, enabling the listener to skip around within an audio file.

To achieve goals, the board will attempt to address the following issues in this order: written communications in May and GTV in June. For each issue, ISAB will discuss (1) what’s going well, (2) what needs improving, (3) what could be done that’s not being done—new innovations.
