 MINUTES

Thursday, April 24, 2002, 5:15 p.m.

Building A Front Conference Room

I.

Introduction of members:

Members present were David Forvendel, Eugene Murray, Julie Thomas, Jo Rathgeber, Robert Keely, and Geiselle Thompson. Members Rob Deal, Jeffrey Gillette, Sandy Gottlieb, and Benjamin Rector were absent.

Staff present: Roger May.

II.

Approval of Minutes:

The board unanimously recommended approval of the March minutes as written.

III.

Citizen Comments:

There were no citizen comments.

IV.

Old/New Business:

1. Brainstorming ideas for contacting non-water bill citizens - Board members discussed ways to increase the Town's communication with non-utility bill citizens, specifically those who reside in apartment communities. Members stated their intent was to provide these citizens with the opportunity to register for the Town's electronic mailing list service (EMLS). Members suggested mailing an insert in the Valpak coupon mailer to invite citizens to register for the EMLS, as well as distributing the Citizen's Guide to Services (CGTS) with an instruction label explaining how citizens can register for the EMLS. The board asked staff to research implementation of a pilot program for distributing CGTS to apartment communities and Spanish stores and shops in Cary.

2. Increasing recycling awareness - Kim Fisher, Public Works and Utilities Director, is in the collecting more information this topic for the board.

Member Comments:

  1. Member Robert Keely commented that the volume of email distributed on the Town's electronic mailing list was excellent and that it was a great flow of information.

The meeting adjourned at 6:06 p.m.

The next ISAB meeting will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2002 at 5 p.m. in the Building A Front Conference Room.
