I.

Introduction of Members:

Members present were Jo Rathgeber, Robert Keely, Anne Fitzpatrick, John Fitzpatrick, Eugene Murray, Kelly Commiskey, Dana Ellington, Jamie Cuticchia, and Michele Hillison.  Member Kirk Keller was absent.  

Council Member Julie Robison was present.  Staff members Susan Moran, Bill Stice, and Karen Gray were present.

 

II.

Approval of Minutes:

The board unanimously recommended approval of the February 5, 2004 minutes, noting two typographical errors which needed correction.

III.

Citizen Comments:

Jo Rathgeber - Congratulations on the Town’s Web site being among the top picks in the nation.  Citizen’s Guide to Services is excellent.  Congratulations on the results of the Biennial Citizen Satisfaction Survey.

IV.

Old/New Business:
 

1. Deputy Town Clerk Karen Gray addressed the Board regarding orientation issues.
   
2. Technology Service Director Bill Stice gave an in-depth presentation on Wi-Fi technology to the Board.  Mr. Stice noted that there were several wireless connection in the Town already, however these existing connections for only for Town use and are not open to the public.  Mr. Stice also noted security concerns with wireless connections.  Mr. Stice recommended offering only internet service through possible future Wi-Fi “hotspots” in Cary .  Mr. Ed Quick also presented information on Wi-Fi technology from a business and economic development perspective, giving the Board an estimate of costs to offer this service.  
   
3. The Board moved to create a subcommittee to investigate the pros and cons of having free Wi-Fi in the downtown area of Cary .  Members Kelly Commiskey and Michele Hillison will serve on the subcommittee.
