Citizen Comments:
Bob Hickey stated that he had received several positive comments about the Town's Electronic Mailing List Service (EMLS) providing updates throughout the last snowstorm. The Town provided citizens with timely, accurate updates on weather and road conditions. Robert Keely stated the he received positive comments from several citizens that had recently found about the Town's EMLS. The citizens stated that they had recently signed up to receive all of the different types of lists provided by the Town's EMLS. Overall, they were very excited about the amount of information the Town provided to its citizens. Mr. Keely stated that they were "raving" very positively about the Town's website and relative to other municipalities, ours was most impressive.

Chairperson David Forvendel reported that in his office a new employee had recently moved to Cary form Rockville, MD. Mr. Forvendel suggested he visit the Town's website to access information about the Town as a new resident. The resident stated that the he found the website very useful and was very impressed.

Jeffrey Gillette reported that he saw a green sign located near Cary Towne Center, close to his house and went to the Town's website to try to find information regarding the sign. Mr. Gillette stated that it wasn't immediately obvious to him how to go from a sign that indicated a public hearing to find out about what the particulars of that public hearing were. Mr. Gillette suggested that each time new signs go up, we create a page on the website that identifies the location of the sign. Mr. Forvendel suggested that staff try to tie this in with GIS mapping on the Town's website. Ms. Moran suggested these issues be discussed at next month's goal setting session.

Mr. Forvendel reported that he had a conversation with the citizen that maintained the Silverton subdivision's website about plowing streets during the last snowstorm. She inquired about where to obtain this information and Mr. Forvendel gave her the Town's web address. Mr. Forvendel suggested that Board discuss another advertising push to homeowners associations at the goal setting session. Mr. Gillette suggested that homeowners associations link to our website from theirs.

IV.

Old/New Business:

  1. Board members discussed the idea of reinstating a Council liaison to the Board, in order to more clearly define Council's direction to the Board and for the Board to be able to relay pertinent information to Council. Board member Robert Keely stated that he would like to see Council reaffirm the purpose of the Information Services Advisory Board, which was addressed in the ISAB Annual Report. The Board agreed to continue to invite Council members to ISAB meetings in an effort to maintain a positive flow of communication between Council and the ISAB.
  2. Board members discussed contacting Mr. Daryl Baker, who attended the October 25, 2001 meeting, requesting to link a series of web sites to the Town's website. The board stated that Mr. Baker would need to understand the boundaries of a non-profit 5013(c) organization.
