Current Position (Title):

Regional Program Manager, Engineering and Environmental Management

Brief Description of Duties:

Cherokee is private equity fund that specializes in the remediation and sustainable redevelopment of brownfields. Since 1990, we have invested more than $1 billion to clean up and restore 520 properties across the United States, Canada, and Western Europe. Cherokee is currently managing its fourth investment fund (Fund IV), which provides over $2 billion of capital to purchase, clean up and redevelop contaminated real estate.

My regional program manager responsibilities include: working with our business, real estate, legal and other environmental professionals; directing environmental due diligence; managing site assessments and remediation; interacting with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, environmental service providers and community organizations; and analyzing environmentally-related financial risk associated with Cherokee’s brownfield real estate transactions. I am also a LEED-AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional) with the U.S. Green Building Council.

As a long time Cary resident, I am excited to see the Town take a leadership role in environmental management and stewardship. With relevant academic, professional and community achievements, I have the experience, values and desire to contribute to the Environmental Advisory Board. My experience and education in environmental sciences and business will enable me to contribute towards achieving the Town’s goals, while enhancing environmental, economic and social conditions.

My education and work experience in environmental management and sustainable development will provide technical expertise to the Board. I currently work in the environmental field with Cherokee in Raleigh (as described above). Prior to joining Cherokee, I was a Program Manager with URS Corporation in Morrisville, where I managed multi-media environmental engineering and design contracts. I earned a Master of Business Administration from Kenan-Flagler Business School (with an emphasis on Sustainable Enterprise), a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences and Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of North Carolina.

My current employer Cherokee was identified in this application as a potential Partner of the Board. Cherokee is a private equity firm specializing in brownfield revitalization and sustainable development. Cherokee was recently honored with the Raleigh Environmental Stewardship award for it commitment to and leadership in sustainability and environmental consciousness. I currently serve as Cherokee’s representative on the North Carolina Sustainable Business Council. Additional information about Cherokee is available at www.cherokeefund.com.

List any board or commission on which you are presently serving, or have served on in the past, either in the Town of Cary or elsewhere, noting any relevancy to the Environmental Advisory Board.

The environmental advisory board must evaluate its work and decisions with consideration of environmental, economic and community impacts. I have been active in local organizations related to each of these issues (see below). Moreover, I was involved in each of these organizations at inception, and therefore, have direct experience with the formation of newly established groups.
