Brief Description of Duties:
|
As a member of the SEM Leadership Team, manages all activities related to residential building science services assisting residential builders and developers in implementing sustainable building strategies. Services include EPA Energy Star for New Home certification (over 1,100 homes in 2007), green building consulting and verification services for four national (LEED-H, NAHB) and regional (NC HBH & Earthcraft) programs, training and technical assistance for all segments of the residential housing market in building science, energy efficiency and green building construction. SEM has been selected by the US EPA as National Energy Star Partner of the Year for both 2007 and 2008. |

My family and I moved to Cary in 1988 and have been fortunate to have been part of community over the past 20 years. In addition I have spent my entire professional career working on issues related to improving the energy efficiency and sustainability of residential buildings. In all my efforts I have worked with a variety of stakeholders and have always sought to understand everyone’s position and try to seek practical, sustainable solutions. My resume (attached) hopefully reflects the breadth and depth of experience and expertise I will bring to the advisory board. |

NC HealthyBuilt Home Senior Program Coordinator and Training Manager
Developed, managed and presented workshops and training programs as part of the Buildings Team at the Center in support of NC HealthyBuilt Homes Program and overall market infrastructure development for high performance, sustainable buildings in N.C. Collaborated in the development of strategic plans and operations to support the Program. Provide technical assistance to building professionals and consumers related to residential building issues. Responsible for deliverable work products as part of federal and state funded grants and contracts (US DOE, NC DOA).

A nationally recognized research and consulting organization that focuses on applied building science, industrial process technologies, and motors and drive testing for utilities, industrial operations and the residential building industry.
Managed and collaborated with other members of the Applied Building Science Team a variety of projects involving design, implementation and evaluation of programs and services for the residential and small commercial building sector. Projects involved skills related to business development, project planning and management, budgeting, communication and interpersonal, technical and other skills while working in a team oriented environment.
Experience included:
· Managed development of plan review capabilities and provided technical assistance in support of a national building performance program targeting national production builders for a national building products and services company.
· Provided training, technical and marketing and sales assistance for the development and implementation of a utility residential new construction program. Deliverables included a 5 part training video program for builders and subcontractors in English and Spanish, on-site consulting with over 125 builders in NC & SC, over 15 one- day workshops for builders.
· Developed business plan and technical resources to serve the subsidized multifamily market in N.C.
· Provided training and technical assistance for affordable housing professionals
· Conducted numerous building diagnostic investigations related to moisture, energy, indoor air quality and building durability in single family and multi-family buildings
· Coordinated training programs for HVAC industry in NC.
· Managed a major field study of energy efficiency in residential new construction involving 100 homes in NC and SC.
· Coordinated a residential consumer market research study involving a North Carolina utility and a national trade research organization.
· Facilitated NC Integrated Resource Planning Issues Committee, which was comprised of representatives from NC electric utilities, Public Utilities Commission and Public Staff.

Conservation Services Group (formerly Community Energy Partnership), Boston, Ma. Sept. 1985 – March 1988
A non-profit organization that developed and managed residential energy conservation programs for electric utility, state and local government clients.
Responsible for the management of a start-up organization that designed and implemented Residential Conservation Service (RCS) programs including energy audits and related services for existing homes, financial loans for energy improvements and other energy efficiency programs. Worked closely with Board of Directors in strategic planning and was responsible for overall financial, contract management and field implementation and training activities. Starting as the initial employee and grew organization to staff of 10 and $1.4 million in revenue in 1988 upon departure.

Community Action Agency (CAA) that provided advocacy and direct services for elderly and low-income population segments of the county.
