Council Present: Mayor Ernest McAlister, Mayor Pro Tem Jack Smith, Council Members Marla Dorrel, Jennifer Robinson, and Julie Robison. Absent: Council Members Michael Joyce and Nels Roseland Town Council, board and commission members, guests, and staff began arriving at 5:20 p.m. At 6 p.m., Mayor McAlister welcomed everyone, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of all of the board and commission members and staff. He read the following proclamation: DESIGNATING
APRIL 2005 AS WHEREAS,
Governor
Michael Easley has declared April 17-23, 2005 as Volunteer Week in North
Carolina and has encouraged everyone to recognize volunteers for their
commitment to community service; and WHEREAS,
the
Town of Cary has an outstanding group of citizen volunteers whose
unselfish efforts help to shape our government and offer valuable
insights, which can effect positive change; and WHEREAS,
volunteers
utilize their time and talents to make a difference in the Town of WHEREAS,
the
Town Council recognizes the value of NOW,
THEREFORE, I,
Ernest F. McAlister, Mayor of the Town of Cary, North Carolina, on behalf
of the Cary Town Council, do hereby proclaim April 2005 as VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION MONTH IN and
I thank all of you for your dedication and service to the Town of
PROCLAIMED

5th day of April 2005.
Each council member then provided comments regarding their respective boards or commissions welcoming new and returning members, thanking them for their contributions, and providing each board and commission with a copy of the above proclamation. Mayor McAlister provided comments on behalf of Mr. Joyce for the Utility Board of Adjustment and the Zoning Board of Adjustment and on behalf of Mr. Roseland for the Town Center Review Commission. Closing remarks were provided by Mayor McAlister. The reception ended at approximately 7 p.m.
