Mayor McAlister called the work session to order at 4:39 p.m.

Present: Mayor Ernie McAlister, Mayor Pro Tem Jack Smith, Council Members Michael Joyce and Jennifer Robinson

Council Member Marla Dorrel arrived at 4:51 p.m. ; Council Member Julie Robison arrived at 5:09 p.m. ; Council Member Nels Roseland arrived at 5:21 p.m.

Town Manger Bill Coleman provided an overview on the goals and purpose of the work session. Information presented will detail the daily operations of the Town and will be provided in several operations work sessions describing roles, responsibilities, and tasks necessary to meet state, local and federal laws, the council’s vision, and the Town’s mission statement, goals and initiatives. To assist council in evaluating and making budget decisions in the coming years, information supplied will detail the mission and goals at the overall Town organization level, the division level and the department level.

Copies of the October 26, 2004 work session materials are attached to and incorporated herein as Exhibit A.

Public Information Office

Public Information Officer Susan Moran provided an overview of the Public Information Office operations. 

Budget Office

Budget Director Scott Fogleman provided an overview.

Ms. Dorrel asked when the staff starts working on the budget. Mr. Fogleman responded that the official kickoff takes place in late October or early November.

Town Clerk’s Office

Town Clerk Sue Rowland provided an overview of the Town Clerk’s Office operations.

Technology Services Department

Technology Services Director Bill Stice provided an overview of the Technology Services Department operations.

Finance Department

Finance Director Karen Mills provided an overview of the Finance Department operations.

In closing, Mr. Coleman stated that the Town allows individuals to be crossed-trained in various areas. Cross-training helps to ensure that resources are used effectively for efficiency and cost control measures.

Mayor McAlister thanked the staff who made presentations.
