Cary Town Council Present: Mayor Ernie McAlister, Mayor Pro Tem Jack Smith, Council Members Marla Dorrel (left at 7:30 p.m. ), Mike Joyce, Jennifer Robinson, and Nels Roseland

 

Cary Town Council Absent: Council Member Julie Robison

 

Wake County Legislative Delegation Members Present: Senator Eric Reeves, Senator Richard Stevens, Representative Don Munford, Representative Jennifer Weiss, Representative David Miner, Representative Paul Stam, Representative J. Sam Ellis, Representative J. Russell Capps

 

Wake County Legislative Delegation Members Absent: Senator Vernon Malone, Senator John H. Carrington, Representative Bernard Allen, Representative Deborah Ross, Representative Rick Eddins

Prior to dinner, Mayor McAlister briefly introduced Cary ’s legislative agenda:

 

Cary’s Legislative Agenda

Approved by the Cary Town Council on January 22, 2004 :

§             Approval to encroach on state park property to widen Kildaire Farm Road at Hemlock Bluffs

§             Support of Senate Bill 760 – Campaign Finance

 

“Watch List” Items

Although not on Cary ’s legislative agenda, the council decided to keep the following items on a “watch list” in order to monitor them:

§             Oppose proposed legislation providing for collective bargaining

§             Oppose any change in the annexation laws for the State of North Carolina

§             Oppose any legislation that will create any municipality on the borders of the Town of Cary

 

Following dinner, Mr. Bailey provided information on the request to encroach on state park property to widen Kildaire Farm Road and Hemlock Bluffs. Senator Stevens volunteered to introduce this bill to the Senate.

 

Council Member Roseland provided information on the request to support Senate Bill 760 – Campaign Finance. The delegation and the council discussed the merits of this bill. Representative Weiss noted that they usually entertain non-controversial issues in the short session, and she stated that this particular issue seems to be controversial.

 

Senator Reeves and Representative Miner thanked the council for hosting the dinner and for sharing the Town of Cary ’s legislative agenda.

 

Mayor McAlister thanked the delegation for taking time from their busy schedules to attend the meeting.
