Unofficial Results on Election night

Candidate C     700

Candidate D     600

 

Total votes cast = 3500                     Unofficial majority = 1751

 

Provisional ballots counted and added to unofficial results:

Candidate A     1200 + 25 provisionals =          1225

Candidate B     1000 + 20 provisionals =          1020

Candidate C     700 + 15 provisionals =              715

Candidate D     600 + 10 provisionals =              610

 

Official certified results = 3570  Official majority = 1786

 

No candidate reached majority.  Candidate A and Candidate B eligible for a runoff.

 

All voted ballots are separated manually. Ballots marked in Column 1 for Candidate A and ballots marked in Column 1 for Candidate B are kept together.

 

Ballots marked in Column 1 for Candidate C and Candidate D (who are not eligible for the runoff) are reviewed to determine if the voter cast a vote in Column 2 for either Candidate A or Candidate B.   The results of the ballots cast for A or B in Column 2 are then added to the initial vote totals for Candidate A and Candidate B.

 

In Column 2, Candidate A received 600 votes and Candidate B received 600 votes

 

Example:

 

Candidate A – Official Results = 1,225 votes + 600  votes        TOTAL VOTES = 1825

 

Candidate B – Official Results = 1,020 votes + 600 votes         TOTAL VOTES = 1620

 

Candidate A is declared the winner.
