Life Span Statement
The Public Art Advisory Board is a standing board, which meets monthly. The PAAB’s responsibilities are ongoing as the Town engages in capital projects and private development continues to occur. Board members will reexamine the their purpose three years beginning in 2013.
The Public Art Advisory Board provides advice and recommendations to Town Council and staff on all matters relating to the administration, acquisition, and inclusion of public artworks in Cary. The board reviews and makes recommendations regarding potential projects and assists staff in drafting a public art ordinance. This board advises council and staff regarding implementation of the Public Art Master Plan (Executive Summary). Members are required to attend monthly meetings and may serve on specific project subcommittees.
Membership
The Public Art Advisory Board consists of nine members appointed by Town Council with representation from local visual arts organizations, working artists, architects, private development community and the general public. All appointments to the commission are for three-year terms, except where unexpired terms are being filled.
Goals/Work Plan
1. As specified in council adopted Public Art Master Plan, review and make recommendations related to the public art and art donations to the Town of
2. Review, comment, and make recommendations as necessary related to public art policies, initiatives and plans brought forward by staff.
3. Serve on artist selection committees for new public art projects.
4. Interface with other citizens for input. 1) formally, the Public Speaks Out portion of the agenda, serves as a conduit for citizen input related to public art and initiatives; 2) board members informally reach out to neighbors and other community contacts to seek input.
5. Provide volunteer support for Town events that give PAAB opportunity to educate the public about public art and the Town’s collection.
6. Develop public art work plan based on annual capital budget.
7. Research development of a public art ordinance.
8. Evaluate projects that could address neighborhood identity.
9. Review and make recommendations concerning gifts and donations of artwork, site plans and projects initiated by organizations and businesses.
10. Enhance the presence of the public art collection and public art information on the Town website.

12. Communicate with, seek advice from, and provide input to other Town appointed boards and commissions regarding related or overlapping initiatives and issues, as appropriate.
Evaluation Criteria: The board will periodically review and evaluate effectiveness of their work plan, modifying as needed to meet goals.
The board Meets as follows at 6:15 p.m. in Conference Room 11130, 316 N. Academy St., Cary. Meetings are approximately two hours in length and may require additional study time to review materials prior to the meeting.

How do I Apply?
Applications are accepted each year from May 1 through June 30 for upcoming vacancies. Applicants applying for this board are required to complete a supplemental application. Current Town of Cary employees are not eligible to volunteer.
