Cary’s Marvelous Music Series Opens with Doo Wop and Dance

  • Cary’s Marvelous Music Series opens this weekend at the Cary Arts Center with a sold-out concert by the Doo Wop Project Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.
  • A family-friendly performance by Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble takes place Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
  • This year’s series is made up of 11 shows broken up into two series over seven months and showcases a variety of emerging and nationally-acclaimed touring artists.

Cary, NC –The 18th season of the Marvelous Music Series kicks off this weekend with two shows that celebrate the history of music and dance at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave.  The Doo Wop Project makes its debut at the Cary Arts Center Friday, September 22 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Mainstage Series; the sold out show will trace the evolution of Doo Wop from street corner harmonies to the biggest hits today. On Saturday, September 23 at 10 a.m., Footworks Percussive Ensemble presents “Keeping the Beat” as the first show in the Marvelous Music Family Series. The show illuminates the multicultural perspectives of percussive dance and includes American clogging, Irish step dance, and African dance.

“This year’s Marvelous Music Series offers great performances for both adults and children,” says Sarah Preston, Cary’s operations & program supervisor for theater. “There is everything from a violin soloist to acrobatics and aerialists, to a dinosaur puppet show and the Nutcracker Suite.”

Individual tickets for the Mainstage Series are $27 for adults and $25 for seniors (age 55 and older). Family and friends four-packs are also available for individual concerts at $92. Five-concert packages for the Mainstage Series are available for $105. Tickets for the Family Series are $8 and a season ticket with access to all five concerts are available for $30.

Tickets can be purchased in person at The Cary Theater from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays or at the Cary Arts Center from 4-8 p.m. on Mondays. Also online at www.etix.com or through the eTix phone center at 1-800-514-3849 while available. Tickets will be sold at the door while available as well. Season ticket orders for the Mainstage Series will be available until November 3. Please note, many concerts last season sold out.
