Cary’s Citizen Police Academy Wants You to Help Make a Difference

Classes are each Wednesday from August 30-November 15

  • The Town of Cary Police Department is looking for you to join its 41st graduating class of the Citizen Police Academy, which begins August 30.
  • The 12-week course focuses on the various aspects of policing, including criminal and constitutional law, patrol, youth services, DWI detection and domestic violence.

Cary, N.C. – Citizens are invited to sign up for the 41st class of the Town of Cary Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy, which goes from August 30-November 15. During the free 12-week course, citizens and police officers meet each other face-to-face in a neutral, friendly setting and develop an understanding about each other. The program covers various aspects of policing, including criminal and constitutional law, patrol, youth services, DWI detection and domestic violence; participants round out their experience with trips to the police firing range and an officer ride-along. Classes are each Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. This class is also a prerequisite for citizens interested in becoming members of the police department’s 170-member strong Citizens Assisting Police (CAP) Team. Applications are available in person at the Town of Cary Police Department, 121 Wilkinson Ave., or by email to wyatt.crabtree@townofcary.org. The application deadline is August 25. Enrollment is limited, and you must be 18 years or older to participate.
