Downtown Chowdown Returns this Weekend in Cary

First of four food truck festivals this year in downtown Cary

  • Dozens of the Triangle’s leading food trucks set to park along Chatham Street between Harrison Avenue and Walker Street on Sunday, flanked by live music and a beer garden.
  • To support this event, localized street closures will go into effect as early as 8:30 a.m. and remain in effect until 7 p.m.
  • This is the first of four food truck festivals in downtown Cary; the remaining dates are June 25, July 30 and October 1.

Cary, NC –Downtown Cary is set to host dozens of the Triangle’s top food trucks in the first of four Downtown Chowdown food truck festivals this Sunday. From 12:30-5 p.m., sample from 25 food trucks, including foodie favorites Baguettaaboutit, Chirba Chirba Dumplings and Porchetta as well as newer trucks like The 13th Taco and Oak City Fish and Chips. A beer garden located at the Ivey Ellington House, 135 W. Chatham St, will feature drinks by Bond Brothers Beer Company, Chatham Hill Winery, Fortnight Brewing Company and Raleigh Brewing Company. Unique to Cary food truck rodeos, there will be complimentary seating scattered throughout the event and a dedicated kid’s area at Fidelity Bank Plaza. Live music by Big Love and Night Shift will play throughout the event. 

“Several trucks have never parked in Cary, so not only can you try some new eats but also in a newly completed setting,” said Ryan O’Quinn, Program Specialist-Outdoor Arts Events. The Town’s multi-year street improvement project along Academy Street was just nearing completion at the time of Cary’s final food truck rodeo last fall. “

In support of the Downtown Chowdown, Chatham Street will close from Harrison Avenue to Walker Street on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Additionally, North Academy Street will close from Chatham Street to Cedar Street starting at 8:30 a.m.; the closing will extend to Waldo Street at 9:30 a.m. and continue until 7 p.m. Citizens coming to the Downtown Chowdown should consider parking in the public parking deck on Town Hall Campus (intersections of Wilkinson Avenue and Ambassador Loop). Accessible parking is located on N. Academy Street across from the Cary Train Depot at the Depot’s overflow parking lot; citizens should follow the sidewalk to proceed south to the event.

This is just the first of four Downtown Chowdowns set for 2017; remaining dates are June 25, July 30 and October 1.
