West Nile Virus
Overview
West Nile virus is spread by bites of infected mosquitoes. People, horses, many birds and some other animals are susceptible. Most people who get the virus have no symptoms or only mild ones. On rare occasions, however, the infection can cause severe, even fatal, brain inflammation.
To reduce breeding areas for mosquitoes, the Town of Cary encourages citizens to eliminate sources of standing water outside their homes.
