Long Range Water Resources Plan
Overview
Cary is committed to proactive, comprehensive planning to guide the future of our community, including effective water resources management. The Long Range Water Resources Plan will guide the development of water supply and management solutions that are financially responsible and maintain a high quality of service for the Town’s customers. This comprehensive effort follows the Integrated Water Resources Management Plan completed in 2007, and supports the Town’s commitments to protecting public health and being good stewards of the environment.
The project includes developing water resource management priorities, screening potential strategies for meeting future water demands and regulatory requirements, evaluating alternatives, and developing a recommended water resources portfolio and action plan for meeting needs through the year 2060.
Current Activities
The project includes conducting a statistically valid telephone survey of the Town’s single family residential customers to assess water use awareness and values. The survey will provide important information for defining needs, managing the Town’s water resources, and developing the Town’s plans. About 400 residential customers in the Towns of Cary and Morrisville will be contacted by telephone for the survey.
(Note: Separate from this project, Cary is participating in the Water Research Foundation’s Residential End Uses of Water Study being managed by Aquacraft, Inc. Aquacraft will be conducting separate written surveys of about 300 Cary single family residential water customers in early 2012. Cary customers will not be asked to participate in both surveys.)
Schedule
The residential customer survey will be conducted in November 2011. The project is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2012.
