Trees for Cary

Overview

Tree Planting and Care

The Town of Cary currently has a large and beautiful urban forest that is both publicly and privately owned. The 1995 replacement value of the Town-owned part of this forest was $97 million as estimated by a 1988 survey conducted by the Town in cooperation with the N.C. Division of Forest Resources.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture - Forest Service, one well-watered shade tree has the same cooling effect as 10 room-size air conditioners running 20 hours a day. Trees not only cool the surrounding air, they also filter our airborne dust and pollution, absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. Trees can reduce harsh traffic noise by up to 40 percent and are effective for visual screening. Trees provide food and cover for wildlife and help protect our watersheds.

An Investment in Quality of Life

The Town of Cary would like to invite you to join in a project for the aesthetic and ecological benefit of our community. This project is the Trees for Cary Program in which volunteer donations to the Town will be used for tree planting on public land in Cary. These plantings will not only enhance property values in our area, but will provide environmental benefits and will also make your trip downtown or to work more pleasurable.

A Lasting Gift

Your contributions to the Trees for Cary Program are a fine way to commemorate birthdays, anniversaries and other important occasions or to honor the memory of a loved one. Donors of $50 or more may designate a name to be engraved on a special plaque in Town Hall that will be updated yearly in association with Cary Arbor Day activities.

Donations will be pooled to complete plantings selected and maintained by the Town professional staff. Most planting will be done in the fall. Publication of locations and types of Trees for Cary Program plantings will be made through local news media.

We need to protect and renew our urban forest. Put roots in your community.
