Frequently Asked Questions - Residential

1. Can I wash paint brushes out in my sink?

Paint brushes and rollers that contain a small amount of water based paint can be rinsed off in the sink. Oil based paints and paint thinners should not be rinsed off or disposed of down the drain. Left over or unused paints of any type should not be poured down the drain for disposal. For more information on household chemical disposal, please visit the Town’s Garbage and Recycling - Hazardous Waste information.

2. Should I dispose of medicines or prescription drugs in the toilet?

The Town encourages citizens to drop off unused medications and prescription drugs during local medicine take back events rather than disposing of them in the sewer system.  For more information on medicine drop off events in the Town, please contact Lt. Steve Fonke of the Cary Police Department at (919) 462-2002 or visit SafeKids NC Operation Medicine Drop.

3. Can I use a garbage disposal in the Town of Cary?
