Overview

The Town of Cary is taking steps to address odor at and near the South Cary Water Reclamation Facility.

The Town contracted with Hazen and Sawyer in 2007 to determine what improvements could be made to existing odor control facilities and provide permanent solutions plant-wide. A high capacity biofilter with carbon systems were added in August 2009 to control odors associated with the untreated wastewater as it enters the treatment plant.

The Town is continuing to evaluate and implement controls on other sources of odors, noise, and light at the treatment facility to minimize impact to nearby residential areas.
