Smoke Testing
The Town's Public Works and Utilities Department tests for leaks in the sewer system by forcing non-toxic smoke into the lines. Testing occurs in different parts of Cary each year.
Current Testing
When: February 2012 (depending on weather).
Where: Testing will take place in the Indian Creek Basin area.
Why: The smoke will help locate places where storm water and other surface waters are entering Town sewers and to reveal sources of sewer odors.
More Details: See a letter to property owners explaining the testing. See a 24-hour notice left on doors of homes and businesses the day before testing is scheduled in an area.
