Water Wise Irrigation Schedule

The Town's Alternate Day Watering ordinance is in effect year-round.

Be water wise by following the guidelines below:

  • Water only between midnight and 7 a.m. to reduce water lost to evaporation
  • Delay regular lawn watering during the cool weeks of spring
  • Test your lawn to see if it really needs watering by:
  • Walking across it. If the grass springs back, it doesn't need water
  • Pushing a screwdriver in to the soil. If it goes in easily, the lawn doesn't need water
  • Using a soil probe to take a soil sample. If the soil is moist, it doesn't need water
  • Use a rain gauge to determine the amount of rain that has fallen on your landscape. You can pick up a free rain gauge at the Finance window in Town Hall Building A
  • To determine the maximum time a zone can run at one time, note how much time passes before water starts to run off or puddles form. The amount of time will be different for each zone depending on soils, type of irrigation head, plant types and slope.
  • Rotor Heads throw large drops of water in one long stream. They are generally used in large turf areas.
  • Spray Heads throw small drops of water and spray in many directions at once. They are generally used in shrub beds and narrow or irregular areas of turf.
