Professional Standards Team

The Professional Standards Team Responsibilities: This team is responsible for fiscal management, recruitment and selection of new personnel, training, research and planning, and internal affairs investigations. This team is commanded by Capt. Tracy Jernigan.

Personnel Services Sergeant: This officer is responsible for recruitment and selection of new personnel.

Training: The department provides comprehensive training for all personnel. Its certified law enforcement instructors teach on topics such as sobriety testing, radar certification, crime prevention, use of force, firearms, CPR and hate crimes law. Wake Technical Community College and the N.C. Justice Academy provide training in basic criminal investigation, officer survival, first-line supervision, cultural diversity, advanced accident investigation, civil liability, search warrants, etc. Members of the department have attended the Administrative Officers Management Program at N.C. State University and also the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., which provides specialized training.
