Cary Community Plan

The Town of Cary is currently undertaking the most ambitious long-range planning effort in our community’s history by doing a wholesale update to our Comprehensive Plan. This update was defined by the Charter, or the “plan for the plan”. The new Cary Community Plan will be built on the values, needs and aspirations of our citizens.  To ensure this happens, a steering committee comprised of a diverse group of citizens was formed to help guide the planning process.   Information on the project's history can be found here, or by viewing the project page.

About Our Plan

Cary’s Community Plan will be a strategic guide that expresses the values and aspirations of our community. It is the broadest public policy document our community can create and will set forth the long-range vision for:

  • Community Development
  • Transportation
  • Housing,
  • Environment
  • Economic Development and
  • Related topics

An effective plan is based on inclusive input from everyone in the community that cares about the future of the place they live, work, play or study. These aspirations will be integrated with solid technical analysis of conditions and trends to create a compelling action agenda for our future.

Committee For The Future (CFTF)
During the month of November (2012), the Town accepted applications to form a steering committee (referred to as The Committee For The Future) of citizens from all parts of Cary to help us through the plan creation process.  Over 400 applications were received and 35 nominees representing the demographic population of Cary were recommended to council.  The recommended nominees were approved by Town Council at their January 10, 2013 meeting.
