Zoning compliance

Cary’s Zoning Compliance Officers (ZCO) provide a range of services including final site inspections, issuing fence and temporary sign permits, and enforcing the Land Development Ordinance regarding all aspects of zoning.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Illegal signage
  • Commercial vehicles parked in neighborhoods
  • Landscape violations
  • Illegal tree clearing
  • Junk cars
  • Site plan violations
  • Home occupations 

Cary ZCOs have jurisdiction within the Town limits as well as properties within the Town’s Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ). Cary currently employs three full time zoning officers and a Zoning Compliance Supervisor.
