Artistic Rain Barrel Project
See the Barrels
The Town of Cary’s Earth Day celebration has been a part of the Spring Daze Arts & Crafts estival for several years now. For 2011, we have conceived of a new way to celebrate both these events – together! We’re launching Cary’s first ever Artistic Rain Barrel Project. We are looking for local artists to turn a regular rain barrel into a functional piece of art that can be placed at homes and businesses around Cary. These barrels will be on display in locations around the Town prior to Spring Daze and featured at the 2011 Spring Daze Arts & Festival (which includes the Town’s Earth Day Celebration). After the festival, they will be auctioned off with the proceeds benefiting the Town’s OASIS Program and the Relief for Recreation Scholarship Fund.
Auction Open: April 30 - May 7
Check out all the barrels at the festival today or on the website. Pick your favorite! To place a bid, you will need to sign up for an eBay account. Check back to make sure you are still the top bidder! You can also choose to “Buy Now” for a higher price. The auction will end on May 7.
If you win a barrel, you will be able to pick up and pay for your barrel at Cary Town Hall, 316 N. Academy St.
WakeMed Cary Hospital Fitness Trail: Passport to Fitness
There are always opportunities to live a healthy lifestyle! Let the 2011 Passport to Fitness be your guide at this year’s Spring Daze Festival. The passport, available at any Fitness Stop throughout the festival, highlights the activities located at each stop. Each Fitness Stop includes activities that are suitable for all ages and are designed to help you balance your health, environmental, physical and cultural well-being. After successfully visiting each stop, you will receive an ink stamp indicating its completion. After completing your passport, return it to any Fitness Stop for a cool prize. Those who have visited all the Fitness stops, as indicated by their passport, will be entered into our grand prize drawings. The Town of Cary has been designated as a Fit Community in North Carolina through 2013 and encourages residents to live a Heart Healthy Lifestyle.
Earth Day Celebration
The Town of Cary’s Earth Day Celebration will be held in conjunction with Spring Daze 2011. The theme this year is “Lead.Inspire.” and exhibits and activities will provide information about ways the Town of Cary is preserving our natural resources and the role you can play in protecting the environment. Visit each booth and learn about water conservation, recycling, stormwater, urban trees, greenways and parks, C-Tran, cooking oil recycling, and environmental volunteerism with Spruce. Don’t miss the new all electric vehicle that will be on display next to the Sustainability tent. Guests that visit each booth will receive a FREE bag made from 100% recycled materials (while supplies last).
Artists in Action!
See artists in action as they demonstrate their art form at the festival! This year, Spring Daze will host the Cary Clay Cooperative and the Capital Quilters Guild. These groups of talented artists will be on hand all day showing you how their work comes to life!
Art-O-Mat Visits Spring Daze on its Town-wide Tour!
Art-o-mat machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to vend art. There are 82 active machines in various locations throughout the country. Cary’s Art-o-mat was originally located at Jordan Hall Arts Center, and has been dispensing original artwork since November 2001. In preparation for the transition to its new home at the Cary Community Arts Center in May of this year, the Art-o-mat will be on the road visiting facilities and events around the Town of Cary. It will be located at the Boat House during the festival.
3rd annual Cary Jaycees Amateur Photography Contest

Community professionals will judge all entries and winners will be presented at 12:15 p.m. on the Boat House Stage.
