Entrance Gates at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve
Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 5:30 p.m.
Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, 2616 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary

Entrance Gates ArtThe entry gates for Stevens Nature Center and Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve were identified as a public art project when plans for widening Kildaire Farm Road and the changes to the streetscape fronting the Preserve were presented. Now completed, this public art project creates a unique identity for the Preserve. The Public Art Master Plan specifically identified “our parks and gateways” as important focus areas for public art and this project offers a unique opportunity to address both of those goals.

The artist for the gates is Mr. Lucas House. He has been working full time as a metalworker since graduating Magna Cum Laude from North Carolina State University, College of Design with a Bachelors of Industrial Design. Mr. House has taught blacksmithing at Central Carolina Community College and John C. Campbell Folk School and has maintained his studio IronHouse Forge which specializes in designing and building residential and commercial custom metalwork. Mr. House has also won awards for industrial design work and a scholarship to Penland School of Crafts.

This project was funding in part by a donation from the Friends of Hemlock Bluffs.
