April 11 – Goldberg Squared (The Quercus String Trio & Artist Abie Harris)
Discussion – 3 p.m.; Concert – 4 p.m.
Hear and see J.S. Bach’s Monumental Goldberg Variations in a musical and visual feast! The Quercus String Trio perform a brilliant adaptation of this eighty-minute masterpiece while Raleigh artist, Abie Harris, creates his own visual interpretation to the thirty-two variations in real time. An exciting collaboration not to be missed! April 18 – Second Annual Hazim Hikmet Poetry Festival (Free)
Free workshop – 1 p.m.; Festival – 3 p.m.
The Second Annual Hazim Hikmet Poetry Festival brings together local, national and international poets to celebrate the life and poetry of Nazim Hikmet Ran, who is known as one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century. 175 poets submitted over 500 poems in the poetry competition that precedes the festival. The 10 poetry competition winners will read their works at the festival. In addition, there will be a free poetry workshop, keynote message by Brown University Professor Mutlu Konuk Blasing and other poet readings. The festival is hosted by the Page-Walker Arts & History Center and sponsored by the Turkish Cultural Foundation and Duke University.
