Black Creek Greenway, Phase IV Project
Overview
The Black Creek Greenway, Phase IV Project is located in north-central Cary and represents an extension of the existing Black Creek Greenway, which runs from Umstead State Park to Godbold Park. This phase of the project extends the greenway from Godbold Park to Bond Park, a distance of approximately 3.5 miles. When complete, this project will create a continuous trail that is 7.1 miles in length, 10 feet in width, and paved. This project has been funded since 2001.

To date, approximately 3 miles of this section of greenway trail have been constructed. (This project also included the construction of the Northwoods Greenway, a .8 mile greenway which links Godbold Park to Northwoods Elementary School, which was completed in 2005.) The Black Creek Greenway – Hampstead Segment represents the last segment to construct to complete this phase.
Black Creek Greenway (Hampstead Segment)
This segment begins just south of the intersection of Maynard Crossing Court and NW Maynard Road. The trail will proceed south crossing High House Road and connect to a .38 segment of trail previously constructed with the Battery at High House subdivision. From the Battery at High House subdivision the trail continues southwest and terminates at Castalia Drive. This segment is approximately .6 miles in length and includes the construction of a 30-ft pedestrian bridge. This segment has received federal funding (SAFETEA-LU) in the amount of $353,900.

Status – The segment is fully designed and all necessary easements have been obtained. The Town is in the process of obtaining NCDOT authorization to bid the project.

>> Black Creek Greenway (State Employees Credit Union Segment)
The Black Creek Greenway Project, Segment 3, Phase II, consists of the construction of a 10-ft. wide asphalt greenway approximately 1.3 miles in length. The project begins near the intersection of Chapel Hill and Maynard Roads and terminates at Maynard Road near the Shell Station in Cary. The project also includes the construction of a 30-ft bridge, a 50-ft bridge and a 200-ft pedestrian bridge that will span the Norfolk & Southern line near the intersection of Maynard and Chapel Hill Roads. This segment has received several grants including, federal stimulus funding in the amount of $1,299,000, SAFETEA LU in the amount of $401,000 and NC Recreational Trails Program Grant in the amount of $75,000.

>> Black Creek Greenway (Bond Park Segment) - This portion of the trail project is located within Bond Park. Project includes constructing a connecting trail around the Boat House parking area, expanding the boat house area parking and installation of the hub (kiosk). The “hub” of the greenway system is installed which is where the Black Creek Greenway meets the White Oak Creek Greenway. The location of the “hub” is in the spillway at Bond Park. A kiosk has been installed at this location which includes information on the the Greenway system as well as information on Bond Park.

Budget - $423,000 (It has received federal funding in the amount of $320,480 and NC Recreational Trails Program Grant in the amount of $75,000 towards construction.)
