WHAT'S NEW AT THE BLUFFS

BackyardHabitats InterpretiveSign
New Interpretive Signs

Thanks to a grant applied for and received by the Friends of Hemlock Bluffs with funding made possible by REI, Inc. new interpretive, educational signs were installed along three miles of trail at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve. Attractive and informative, the new signs replace numbered posts which, along with self-guided brochures, led visitors along the trails. The new system, with photos and text provided by preserve staff, allows visitors to partipate in the interpretation at any point on the trail. The idea to eliminate the brochure and numbered posts and design the beautiful, new signs was the brainchild of designer, Craig Fitzpatrick of Design Source (the sign fabricator). This approach eliminates the need for brochures, photocopying, paper waste and following a set, numbered marker system through the preserve. Citizens can walk at their own pace, enjoy their visit, and interact with as many or as few of the interpretive signs as they desire. Topics range from basic information about the bluffs, the animal inhabitants, the importance of Swift Creek, and what to include in your backyard wildlife habitat. Visit the preserve to find out more.

New Trailhead Kiosk

A facelift has taken place at Hemlock Bluffs! A new trail map and bulletin board have been custom built and installed at the main trailhead to welcome and orient visitors to Hemlock Bluffs. This kiosk is the first big step in a major beautification process sponsored by a grant from REI, Inc that includes exciting future trail modifications. In addition, the other bulletin boards near the parking lots have also been painted and updated. Keep your eyes open for what’s new on your next visit!
