Low Course
Located on or near the ground, the low course is comprised of elements and initiatives that foster team building.
Team building is a process that develops shared goals, interdependence, trust, commitment, and accountability. This process also strives to improve team members’ problem-solving skills.
A typical day
The day starts with ice-breakers and warm-ups to provide participants with an opportunity to get to know staff and set the stage for the day. Next the program progresses into elements that build on trust, communication, leadership and other aspects of teamwork.
Activities are selected base on the goals of the group as well as individual goals. They are also selected based on the successes, challenges, and progress the team makes throughout the day. A group can expect about two to four initiatives during a program.
| 9 a.m. | Welcome Sequence |
| 9:30 a.m. | Ice Breakers and Warm-ups |
| 10:30 a.m. | Team Building Activities (2-4) |
| 12:45 p.m. | Conclusion |
| 1 p.m. | Farewell. Hope to see you again soon! |
At the conclusion of some of the elements, staff will facilitate a conversation to share observations, explore lessons learned and make connections between the experiences on the course as it relates to everyday team interactions.
Sample Activities
The activities and elements listed below represent a small sample of what the program has to offer. Activities are selected based on goals and safety. Groups are welcome to request activities listed below. Staff reserves the right to change elements to maintain the safety of the participants and staff.
All Aboard
All Aboard! Get your whole team ‘on board’ the small platform for success. The platforms vary in size and get progressively more difficult the smaller they get or the larger the team. This element works on planning and collaboration.
The Nitro Crossing
Similar to a backyard rope swing, participants are challenged to get everyone across an imaginary pool of nitroglycerin, safely to the other side, using only the rope in front of them. This works on communication, support, and trust.
Whale Watch
Don’t rock the ‘boat,’ or you may fall over board. The balance board demonstrates the need to balance physically as well as balance the strengths and needs of the team. The more balanced the team, the more balanced the 'boat' will be.
Cube
One of our newest elements, the Cube, may help groups identify or address leadership, collaboration, and problem solving. Groups are asked to step through the Cube without knocking the Cube off the base. Beware; it’s more challenging than it looks!
Wall
Our wall stands at 12 feet and challenges groups to accomplish tasks that seem too daunting to accomplish. Groups are encouraged to get as many members of the team over the wall as possible using only the resources of the group. The wall is very popular with many of our groups and is highly successful.
