PUBLIC INFORMATION SPECIALIST - VACANCY #10-040 - ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT - Normal starting salary range: $39,416 - $46,000, plus excellent benefits. At the direction of the Public Information Officer, the Public Information Specialist works as part of a high performing team on the timely creation, facilitation, and updating of accurate information about Town of Cary programs, services, operations, policies, and accomplishments. Duties include writing, proofing, editing, formatting, posting, and distributing news releases, media advisories, public service announcements, fact sheets, and the Town’s monthly utility bill newsletter; managing contact and distribution lists and the image library; assisting with special events; coordinating paid advertising; tracking traditional and new media coverage; and assisting with Emergency Public Information. Requires bachelor’s degree in English, communication, journalism, or related field, and a minimum of three years relevant professional experience. Must be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of Microsoft and Adobe products. Previous government experience preferred. Master’s degree, APR certification, or other advanced study/achievement a plus. SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT AND RECYCLING
RECYCLING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II (HRSS/BBP) - VACANCY #10-041 - PUBLIC WORKS/UTILITIES DEPARTMENT - Normal starting salary: $28,017, plus excellent benefits. Work up to 10 hours per day, Tuesday through Friday, performing heavy, semi-skilled work driving and operating a right-hand side drive, tandem axle truck to collect recyclables. Must have previous experience operating a rear-packing vehicle with a hydraulic packer as well as a fully automated truck. Responsible for the cleaning, care, and maintenance of equipment and may occasionally supervise workers on an assigned crew. Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation, a valid Class B commercial driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, general knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing solid waste vehicles and equipment, and good customer service skills. Also requires general knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation, general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of recyclables collection equipment, and skill and care in the operation of the equipment. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Requirements include the ability to continuously operate a joy-stick mechanism that operates an automated grabber to grasp and empty carts, as well as the visual acuity necessary for the extensive use of side mirrors to guide and direct the automated grabber arm of the vehicle. The ideal candidate will possess a mechanical aptitude, have experience preparing simple written reports; and have some experience leading a small crew. ATHLETIC AIDE IV (TEMPORARY/PART-TIME) (HRSS) - VACANCY #10-024 - PARKS, RECREATION, AND CULTURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, WAKEMED SOCCER PARK - Normal starting hourly rate: $8.25 - $11, depending upon qualifications. Duties for these temporary positions include coordinating field rentals and ticket sales, reporting maintenance issues, handling difficult situations, supervision of part-time staff, securing facilities, point-of-contact with the public, answering requests for information, assisting with cleaning facilities, troubleshooting, and performing related tasks as required. Requires knowledge of rules for soccer, cross-country running, and other sports. This position normally involves 10 - 25 hours per week (can increase seasonally). We need individuals at least 18 years of age who are flexible, energetic, computer savvy, and service/detail-oriented to work in a fast-paced community center. Duties include customer service, data entry, setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and other equipment for programs; program registrations; and light maintenance. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on a regular, recurring basis, and as much as 50 pounds occasionally (such as tables/chairs, table/chair carts, and fitness-related equipment). Requires ability to deal effectively with the public, multitask, and handle a wide variety of duties. Must be a responsible and organized individual. Schedule includes working primarily evenings and weekends. Hours are flexible and range from 10 to 20 hours per week. PARK ATTENDANT I (TEMPORARY/PART-TIME) - VACANCY #10-028 - STEVENS NATURE CENTER AT HEMLOCK BLUFFS NATURE PRESERVE - Normal starting hourly rate: $7.50 - $8.50, depending upon qualifications. The Stevens Nature Center is seeking qualified applicants with an interest in the environment to carry out nature education and natural resource management work at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve. Daily responsibilities include: facility supervision, program registration and delivery, citizen contact, visitor information, and routine maintenance. Work hours include weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays, including near Christmas. Work hours vary; candidate flexibility is a must. Work hours can be set at 20-25 hours per week depending on the candidate’s availability. Prefer knowledge of environmental education, experience working with children, some computer knowledge, and retail sales/cash register experience. Primary job duties include stringing tennis racquets as consumer demand requires. Job duties also include assisting full-time Cary Tennis Center staff and/or tennis professionals with light maintenance and/or janitorial duties, especially during tournaments and special events. Tennis playing experience preferred. Previous racquet stringing experience is helpful, but not required. Successful candidate must be physically able to lift up to 30 pounds, have good manual dexterity to work with the string during the racquet stringing process, and have the ability to learn to string racquets as well as educate patrons about the benefits/differences in the different types of string and grips. Willingness to become certified by the United States Racquet Stringers Association (USRSA) is preferred.
