Dental Insurance

What type of dental plan is it?

  • It is a dental reimbursement plan and is self-insured by the Town. All covered family members each have an annual reimbursement maximum of $2,000.

  • The dental administrator is Delta Dental.

What dental expenses are covered?

May an employee choose his/her own dentist?

  • Yes. However, obtaining dental services from a Delta Dental network provider (either from the PPO or the Premier network) is preferred – payment is made directly to the network provider, the employee is not required to file a claim, and network discounts help control costs and in some cases allow the annual maximum reimbursement to cover more and to further stretch the available reimbursement dollars.

Who would I call if I have questions about the dental plan?

  • Any questions that you have about the plan or about the amount of reimbursement you or a covered family member has available can be directed to Delta Dental customer service at 1-800-524-0149. Please note that inquiries regarding reimbursement rates for Non-participating Providers are proprietary and contained in contracts that Delta Dental has with Participating Providers. To get a better idea of your out of pocket expense for services provided either for Participating or Non-Participating Providers, request that a pre-determination be submitted to Delta Dental. This should not be necessary for Diagnostic and Preventive services as reimbursement is 100% for both Participating and Nonparticipating Dentists.

  • Go to toolkitsonline.com and choose Consumer Toolkit to register to be able to access information about participating dental offices, check on the status of a claim, or to print a duplicate ID card.

What is the cost for dental insurance?

If you use an Out-of-Network dental provider, how do you submit a claim?

How does an employee add or drop a spouse, dependents, or self to/from the dental plan?

  • Because insurance premiums are deducted "pre tax," the plans are governed by IRS guidelines that provide an "Open Enrollment" period one time per benefit year. This Open Enrollment period allows you to add or drop yourself and/or dependents. Announcements regarding this period are made in advance of the event.

  • Exceptions to having to wait until the "Open Enrollment" period are known as "qualifying events"; i.e., birth of a child, marriage, divorce, loss of coverage under spouse's plan, spouse's open enrollment, etc. You have 30 days from the date of the event to join the plan. Proof of the qualifying event is required. Contact Human Resources for additional information on what is considered a qualifying event.

The "Open Enrollment" period will be advertised to all employees.

  • Note: Employees who have "waived" their medical coverage are not eligible for dental insurance during the waiver period.
