Recruitment

The Fire Department schedules training academies for recruits as needed. For details, see the firefighter listing on the Job Opportunities page.

Applications for employment as a firefighter are accepted only during open recruitment periods. The Human Resources Department maintains an updated list of job openings. If you wish to be considered for this position with the Town of Cary, please fill out an electronic job interest card online and you will receive an email notifying you when firefighter recruitment begins. You may apply online at that time.

Recruit Academy

Our recruit academy lasts approximately 25 weeks. Upon completion of the recruit academy, firefighters will hold the following certifications:
  • North Carolina Firefighter Level II
  • North Carolina Technicial Rescuer 
  • North Carolina Hazardous Materials Operations-Plus
  • North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician
  • National Incident Command System
  • Radiological Monitoring

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Not color blind
  • Hold a valid driver's license with good driving record
