Firefighter Qualifications
You must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Firefighter Work Schedule

We work a 53 hour work week consisting of three rotating 24.5 hour work days.

Fire Department Call Volume

We average 18 calls per day/560 per month/6,800 per year.

Fire Department Staff-Resources

We have seven stations, seven engine companies, two truck companies, three ladder companies and two rescue companies.

Administration employs one fire chief, one deputy fire chief, two assistant fire chiefs, two training captains, and three administrative support staff.

Suppression is comprised of 195 full-time personnel. Each shift has two battalion chiefs, 14 captains, 14 engineers, 12 master firefighters and 23 firefighters.

Currently, the Risk Management Group employs a fire marshal, two deputy fire marshals, two fire inspectors, a public education specialist/inspector and five part-time fire inspectors.

Burning, Outdoor
Any outdoor burning requires a permit issued by the Cary Fire Department. Contact the Risk Management Group at (919) 469-4057 for information.

Fire Department Tours
You may schedule a tour of a fire station by contacting the Administration Office at (919) 469-4056 to be connected to a station.

Fire Insurance Class Rating
Cary is a Class 3 Fire Department, which means that all homes within the Town Limits of Cary are within 5 miles of a fire station and within 500 feet of a fire hydrant.
