Thank you for choosing to do business in the Town of Cary. Please review the following information concerning recent changes the NC General Assembly made to the privilege license tax.
Senate Bill S.L. 2013-3 states that for the fiscal year beginning on July 1, 2014 and ending on June 30, 2015 a city's authority to tax is limited to those businesses that have a “physical location” within the city's limits. A business does not have a physical location if its only presence in that city is through the performance of services or through the dispatch of employees to perform work, deliver goods, collect payments, or take orders. Accordingly, service providers such as plumbers, contractors, and landscapers who service customers within the city but have no office or similar working space within the city are no longer taxed. This law eliminates privilege license taxes for future years as well.
New businesses which are physically located in the Cary city limits will still need to obtain a one-year privilege license until June 30, 2015.
Separate licenses may be required if there is more than one type of business.
Download a privilege license application or obtain one by fax, mail or e-mail. Return it to the Town of Cary Finance Department with the fee.
