Thank you for choosing to do business in the Town of Cary. Please review the following information concerning recent changes to the privilege license tax made by the NC General Assembly.
S.L. 2014-3/House Bill 1050 states that beginning on July 1, 2015, local governments will no longer have the authority to levy a privilege license tax so new or existing business in Cary will not be required to obtain or renew a privilege license. In accordance, renewal notices will not be mailed for current year licenses expiring on June 30, 2015.
Our privilege license update sheet has additional information about the changes.
Even though a privilege license will no longer be necessary after July 1, the Town’s Land Development Ordinance (LDO) requires that a building permit must be obtained before a business can occupy a commercial space. Please visit our Starting a Business webpage for more details.
New businesses which are physically located in the Cary city limits will still need to obtain a privilege license until June 30, 2015.
Download a privilege license application or obtain one by fax, mail or e-mail. Return it to the Town of Cary Finance Department.
