Wastewater Pump Station Parallel Force Mains

Overview: This project includes the design and construction of new force mains to provide redundancy to existing critical force mains. Parallel force mains will be constructed for the Walnut Creek Pump Station, Crossroads Pump Station, Jones Franklin Pump Station, and Aviation Parkway Pump Station. Additional pump stations may be added as the project progresses. These force mains will make it possible to take force mains down for preventative maintenance and cleaning, as well as provide additional operational flexibility to the system.

Schedule: This project is currently under design. Construction for the Walnut Creek and Jones Franklin force mains will begin in winter 2012. Please see the Walnut Creek and Jones Franklin project web page for additional information.

Wastewater Collection System Study and Master Plan

Overview: The Town of Cary completed its most recent wastewater collection system master plan in 2003. Since that time, there have been a number of changes to the wastewater system, such as taking ownership of the Town of Morrisville utilities and the detailed planning for the new Western Wake Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility. An updated master plan is necessary to address these and other changes in the collection system. The information in the master plan will be used to plan and prioritize future collection system improvements.

Current Wastewater Collection System Study and Master Plan

Schedule: This project is currently underway. The updated master plan is estimated to be complete in spring 2012.

Dutchman's Branch Pump Station, Force Main, and Interceptor

Overview

The Dutchman’s Branch Regional Pump Station, Force Main, and Interceptor Project is a result of the growth in the southern part of the Town and will increase the Town’s serviceable area. The project will also eliminate two smaller pump station sites whereby also eliminating the potential for those pump stations to fail and the maintenance costs associated with them.

Description – 6,000 feet of 20-inch gravity sanitary sewer interceptor will be constructed along Dutchman’s Branch from east of Kildaire Farm Road to Holly Springs Road. At the eastern terminus of the interceptor a sewer pump station will be built. 4,000 feet of 12-inch sanitary sewer force main will be extended to the existing Camp Branch interceptor. Following the activation of these facilities, the Glenridge pump station and the Powell Tract II pump station will be eliminated.

Status – Project is on 'Hold'

30" Force Main and 16" Reclaimed Water Line along Green Level Church Road (McCrimmon Parkway to Carpenter Fire Station Road)

Overview: This project consists of 2,000 FT of 30-inch force main and 2,600 Reclaimed Water line along Green Level Church Road from McCrimmon Parkway to Carpenter Fire Station Road. The widening of Green Level Church Road within these limits was completed in December 2011. However, the road widening project does not include a section sidewalk and the greenway trail along Green Level Church Road.

The remaining sidewalk and greenway trail along Green Level Church Road are scheduled to be built upon completion of the 30" force main along the southbound lanes and the 16" reclaimed water line along the northbound lanes. This project will also include a Fiber Optic cable connecting the signal lights at both intersections to allow Cary's Traffic Management Center to video monitor in real time each intersection and make adjustments to help traffic flow.

Schedule: Construction will begin in summer 2012.

Green Level Interceptor and Pump Station Elimination Project

Overview:  Phase 1 of this project provides approximately 4,430 linear feet of 48-inch diameter gravity sewer line and 40 linear feet of 8-inch diameter gravity sewer line along an unnamed tributary of White Oak Creek, from the West Cary Pump Station located at 3905 Green Level West Road to the Woodlands Pump Station, located at 7748 Mill Road. Phase 1 of the Green Level Interceptor shall provide gravity sewer service to the surrounding area, and convey sewage to the West Cary Pump Station. Also, the Woodlands Pump Station will be removed from service, eliminating any potential failure of the pump station while reducing associated maintenance costs for sewer service in this area.

Phase 2 of this project provides for 1,250 linear feet of 48-inch diameter gravity sewer and 700 linear feet of 12-inch diameter gravity sewer line along from the existing gravity sewer line located at the end of Starcross Court to Hendrix Road and then to the Palaver Pump Station. Phase 2 of the Green Level Interceptor shall provide gravity sewer service to the surrounding area. Also, the Palaver Pump Station will be removed from service, eliminating any potential failure of the pump station while reducing associated maintenance costs for sewer service in this area.

Phase 3 of this project provides for 4,350 linear feet of 48-inch diameter gravity sewer from the end of Phase 2, continuing along the same unnamed tributary and will tie into an existing force main approximately 1,200-feet north of the intersection of Green Level Church Road and Green Hope School Road. Phase 3 of the Green Level Interceptor shall provide gravity sewer service to the surrounding area and allow waste water to flow by gravity from the existing force main down to the West Cary Pump Station.

Schedule: This project is currently under design. Construction is anticipated to begin the first quarter of 2013.

Franklin Heights Water and Sewer Extension

Overview: The Franklin Heights Project consists of providing water and sewer service to the Franklin Heights community, along Tryon Road, Piney Plains Road, Cowley Road, Rebecca Circle, and Franklin Heights Road. The community petitioned the Town of Cary to receive water and sewer service. The project was subsequently approved by Council in June 2011. The residents of the Franklin Heights community currently utilize private well and septic systems. This project, when completed, will provide approximately 5,000 feet of sewer mains, 3,000 feet of water mains, and water and sewer services to 20 Town of Cary residences.

Schedule: This project is currently under design. Construction is anticipated to begin in the second quarter of 2013.

Reedy Creek Regional Pump Station, Force Main Interceptor and Pump Station Eliminations

Overview: The initial phase of this project includes a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) to be compiled that shall discuss the specifics of the overall project. The PER will include but not be limited to the following items: pump station site location selection and layout, force main and gravity sewer sizing and alignments, conceptual pump station design, review of regulatory requirements, preliminary cost estimate, and preliminary scheduling.

The project provides for approximately 3,900 linear feet of 24-inch gravity sewer, 1,000-linear feet of 21-inch gravity sewer, 2,500 linear feet of 18-inch gravity sewer, 5,000 linear feet of 14-inch gravity sewer, 1,200 linear feet of 10-inch gravity sewer, and 2,500 linear feet of 8-inch gravity sewer in the ReedyCreekBasin. These sewers will flow to the new Reedy Creek Regional Pump Station and allow the Medlin, Thresher Court, and I-40/SAS pump stations to be taken off line and abandoned, eliminating any potential failure of the pump station while reducing associated maintenance costs for sewer service in this area. The project also provides for the design of a 2,800 gallon per minute (4-MGD) pump station at the northern terminus of the Reedy Creek Interceptor with an associated 10-inch force main approximately 3,700 linear feet in length. The final element of the project provides for approximately 6,300 linear feet of 21-inch gravity sewer parallel to the existing Harrison Oaks interceptor. The project shall provide gravity sewer service to the surrounding area, and convey sewage to the proposed Reedy Creek Regional Pump Station.

Subsequent phases of this project will include the complete design and construction of the items listed above.

Schedule: This initial phase of this project is currently underway. A consultant was chosen and is actively working on the Preliminary Engineering Report. Completion of this report is anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2012. At this time, there is no schedule for the subsequent phases of this project.
