Reclaimed Water Line Oversizing
Overview: This project provides funding for reimbursement to developers for the costs of reclaimed water lines installed to serve needs beyond those of their individual developments. Reimbursements to the developer are made upon completion and acceptance of the project.

Walnut Street Waterline Improvements
Overview: This project will install a 12” waterline on Walnut Street from Kildaire Farm Road to Maynard Road. This new waterline will replace existing small diameter AC waterlines on Walnut Street and enhance water transmission and service to downtown Cary.
Schedule: This project is currently under design. Construction may begin at middle of 2010.

Pierce Olive Road Water Line Extension Project
Overview: The project will install 9,200 feet of 12-inch water mains along Pierce Olive Road, between Arthur Pierce Road and Optimist Farm Road. This project will connect the existing dead end waterlines, and will provide redundancy within the water distribution system, improve water quality and reduce the impacts of a line break or fire demand on Town of Cary residents.
Schedule: This project is currently under design. Construction may begin in early 2010.

The water mains in this area are at least thirty years old and have been prone to failures. The lines will be upgraded to ductile iron lines designed to the current Town of Cary standards in order to continue to provide high quality water service to these areas.
Schedule: This project is currently under design. Construction is estimated to begin in summer 2012.

Downtown Morrisville Water Main Replacement, Phase 1
Overview: This project will address the reduced pressure zone in the downtown area of Morrisville east of Chapel Hill Road. The project will replace existing PVC water main with ductile iron pipe, eliminate the low pressure zone, and provide increased connectivity within the water system in order to continue to provide high quality water service to the area.
Schedule: This project is currently under design. Construction is estimated to begin by late 2012.

Cary/Apex Water Treatment Plant - Phase 3 Expansion
Overview: This project provides for the engineering evaluation, analysis, design and construction for future expansion and improvements of the Cary/Apex Water Treatment Facilities beyond its current capacity of 40 Million Gallons per Day (MGD), to maintain adequate infrastructure. According to a Preliminary Engineering Report completed in April 2010, the most cost-effective expansion would increase the CAWTF capacity to 56 MGD.
Schedule: The environmental review process began in 2010 and is expected to conclude in 2012 with a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). Design Workshops are underway with the design consultant and staff from the Towns of Cary and Apex, and will last through the end of 2011. Detailed design will follow the workshop process. Construction schedule is yet to be determined, but is expected to be completed in 2015.
Environmental Assessment / Public Meeting: The Towns of Cary and Apex have submitted an Environmental Assessment (EA) for Direct Impacts of this project and have requested a “Finding of No Significant Impact” (FONSI). The Public Water Supply Section (PWS), Division of Water Resources of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NC DENR), is reviewing this request and expects to issue a FONSI after review is complete, all comments are addressed, and this notice is published. The Towns of Cary and Apex will hold a public meeting on January 10, 2012 between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, 119 Ambassador Loop, Cary, NC 27512, (919) 460-4963, to present the draft EA document for the project to the general public.

Overview: This project involves the replacement of water mains along Sturdivant Drive from Scott Place to Lane Drive, and along Suterland Road from Kirkcaldy Road to Glenbuckley Road including Saltoun Court. The water mains in this area are at least thirty years old and have been prone to failure. The lines will be upgraded to ductile iron lines designed to the current Town of Cary standards in order to continue to provide high quality water service to these areas.
Schedule: This project is substantially complete. Punch list items estimated to be completed by the middle of 2012.

Western Wake Regional Water Reclamation Facility
Overview: This project includes four separate construction contracts for a new 18 MGD water reclamation facility. The new WRF will serve parts of Cary, Morrisville, and Apex in western Wake County and will return water to the Cape Fear River Basin. Contract 1, Treatment Works and Church Road Water Line Extension, is currently under construction. Contracts 2 (Biosolids Handling), 3 (Administration/Maintenance Buildings), and 4 (Effluent Pump Station) will start construction in 2012. Southern Pressure Zone US-1 Water Line
Overview: This project provides for the installation of 1,890 linear feet of 16-inch water main under US 1 from Gregson Drive to Regency Parkway along with pressure and flow control valving to provide a third water supply feed into the southern pressure zone. This project is required to redundancy of service in the event of line breaks or high fire fighting demand. This project is growth-related and will increase the Town’s utility service area. This project will provide a third supply feed to the area.
Schedule: Construction will begin in spring 2012.

Robert Street Water Main
Overview: This project involves the replacement of a small diameter cross lot water line with a new 6-inch water main along the entirety of Robert Street. The project will install ductile iron pipe designed to current Town of Cary standards and minimize the impact of future maintenance in order to continue to provide high quality water service to the area.

Ridgeview Drive Elevated Water Storage Tank Paint Renovation
Overview:This project provides for the repainting of both the interior and exterior surfaces of the Ridgeview Drive water storage tank located near the intersection of Kildaire Farm Road and SE Cary Parkway. Surfaces will be appropriately prepared prior to paint application. The paint on the 17 year old tank is beginning to deteriorate. The new paint will extend the life of the tank by 15 years, ensuring its continued safe storage of drinking water.
Schedule: This project is planned to start in March with completion expected in summer 2012.
