Cary Begins Downtown Waterline Installation Project
Temporary road closure in place for this weekend

CARY, NC – With a commitment to reliable water service, the Town of Cary this month will begin the construction of a new 1.1-mile long waterline in Downtown Cary. Slated to be completed this fall, the project will install a 12-inch waterline to replace existing small diameter waterlines on Walnut Street from Kildaire Farm Road to Maynard Road. In conjunction with this project, contractors working on behalf of the Town of Cary will also install new sidewalk along Walnut Street from Kildaire Farm Road to Ralph Drive. Construction costs for the entire project, including waterline and sidewalk installation, is about $1.3 million.

“As our downtown revitalization continues, we’re working hard to enhance water transmission and overall utility service to our downtown residents and business owners,” said Shuyan Tian, Project Engineer. “In acknowledging our downtown growth, it’s great timing that we are able to increase our connectivity and add about a half-mile of sidewalks to benefit our walking public without doing separate road closures or detours.”

As contractors start waterline installation this weekend, drivers should be aware that the intersection of Walnut Street and Kildaire Farm Road will be closed on March 2 and March 3 from 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Drivers should follow the signed detour routes using E. Park Street, S. Walker Street and Byrum Street; the construction will not affect pedestrians.
