Cary Charges One in Jewelry Store Heist
Accomplices remain on the lam
CARY, NC – Thanks to quick action by a Town of Cary patrol officer, police have made one arrest in yesterday’s commercial robbery of J.M. Edwards Jewelers at 1137 Kildaire Farm Road. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania resident Rodger Kent Williams, 41, has been charged with one count of Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. For these charges, he faces up to 21 years in prison; he is currently being held at the Wake County Public Safety Center.
Around 10:30 a.m. on January 28, a J.M. Edwards Jewelers employee reported that three men entered the store, brandished weapons, and emptied the contents of multiple display counters into duffel bags and exited using the business’s rear door. A responding officer confronted the suspects and was successful in taking one—Williams—into custody. The other two men, last seen wearing hooded sweatshirts, are believed to be black men approximately six-feet tall; they left the scene in an unknown vehicle in an adjacent parking lot. No injuries were reported and some property loss has been recovered.
“While we were able to nab one suspect, our concern is that these men are not from the area and may quickly flee,” said Lt. Steve Fonke with Cary’s Criminal Investigations Unit. “Anyone with any information, no matter how seemingly small of a detail, is encouraged to report it immediately so that we may bring swift justice to this business owner.”
The case is under investigation and anyone with information should contact the Town of Cary Police Department at (919) 469-4012 or Cary Crime Stoppers at (919) 226-2746. Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest or indictment of those responsible for committing certain types of crimes. All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at caller's request.
