Cary Kicks off Two-Year Community Planning Process
Committee for the Future to host first meeting January 30
CARY, NC – Building on the Town’s commitment to comprehensive planning, transparency and citizen involvement, the Town of Cary will begin a two-year process of updating its long-range community plan with the first meeting of the Committee for the Future on January 30, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cary Arts Center. Thirty-five volunteers have been selected to serve on the citizen steering committee that will assist the Town in developing a new 25-year comprehensive plan for the future of Cary. The public is invited to attend the meeting and get a first look into the process.
The Town is taking an unprecedented approach in updating its comprehensive plan. Working with consultant team Clarion Associates, Cary is launching a fully integrated process that will engage and involve the entire town. Feedback from citizens, businesses and others with a connection to the Town will be sought on a wide range of topics and issues related to Cary’s future, such as land use, community development, transportation, housing, environment, economic development, and related topics. These diverse planning efforts will be crafted into a single overarching community vision known as the Cary Community Plan.
“Having community involvement is at the heart of the process,” said Jeff Ulma, Cary Planning Director. “This planning process will set the course for future growth and development in Cary over the next two to three decades.”
The steering committee will serve as a leader in the process and will meet monthly over the next two years. At their first meeting, committee members will get to know one another, hear details about the timeline and planning process, and learn more about their roles and responsibilities while serving on the committee.
The Town of Cary’s Comprehensive Plan is the Town’s broadest public policy document. It serves as a strategic guide that expresses the values and aspirations of the community.
