Applause! Cary Youth Theatre Gives Life to Liza
Performance schedule adds matinee to increase accessibility for all audiences

CARY, NC – Coinciding with Bullying Prevention Month, the Town of Cary’s Applause! Youth Theatre will present LIZA AND THE RIDDLING CAVE, an award-winning Appalachian adventure that teaches tolerance and acceptance, and celebrates individuality and the magic created by families. In the story, Liza, who uses sign language to communicate, channels her extraordinary talent for solving riddles to locate her missing father. The performance runs October 12-14 at various times at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Avenue. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children, and $8 for students and seniors.

A first for Applause! Cary Youth Theatre, the group will offer a special Saturday matinee featuring additional accessibility options, including audio description for the visually impaired, workshops for the audience to learn sign language used in the play and understand what happens behind the scenes of a production, and an opportunity to ask questions after the show. Always available at any Cary Arts Center theatre performance, there will be assisted listening devices for the hearing impaired.

“The Town of Cary is always looking for new ways to include more citizens in Town programs and events,” said Rachel Baranski, Youth Theatre Coordinator. “It’s great that more people will be able to enjoy the hard work and dedication these kids have put into this production.” Baranski added that 18 kids serving as actors or design technicians make up the LIZA company.

Applause! Cary Youth Theatre has offered mainstage youth productions since 1999 in addition to youth theatre classes and workshops; LIZA opens Applause’s 14th season. In January, the group will host auditions for its winter production, which will be open to children as young as six years old.
