Cary Calls Upon Citizens with Community Zest
Committee for the Future members will help construct Cary’s next long-range plan

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary is undertaking the most ambitious long-range planning effort in its history and is turning to citizens for help. During the month of November, the Town is accepting applications for its Committee for the Future, a steering committee that will join Town staff in completing a wholesale update to the Cary Comprehensive Plan, a strategic guide that expresses the values and aspirations of the community. It is the Town’s broadest public policy document and will set forth the long-range vision for community development, transportation, housing, environment, economic development, and related topics.

“As a result of solid stewardship and a strong history of volunteerism, the Town of Cary has established itself as one of the premier communities in the United States,” said Jeff Ulma, Planning Director. “We’ve grown to a point where it’s time to introduce a new community plan that will provide an opportunity to assess the community of today and understand our choices for tomorrow. It’s important that we attract a representative group of citizens for our steering committee to ensure we create this plan to match our vision.”

Applicants must be at least 21 years old and live within Cary’s corporate limits or planning boundaries or own a business in Cary, be registered to vote, and have no disqualifying factors, such as sex offenses and felonies. Applications can be obtained and submitted for consideration online at www.townofcary.org and in the Town of Cary Planning Department; applications will be accepted until November 30. Selected citizens will be notified in December. Meetings will begin in January 2013 and continue monthly for about 24 months.

Interested citizens with questions are encouraged to attend one of two informational sessions: November 14 at the Cary Arts Center and November 26 at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center. For more information and an application, search “Cary Community Plan” at www.townofcary.org or call (919) 460-4983.
