Public Input Sought For Downtown Cary Theater Conceptual Designs
Q&A To Follow January 31 Meeting
Cary, NC – Citizens are invited to view conceptual design plans for the Town of Cary’s downtown theater at a public meeting scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 31 in Council Chambers at Town Hall, 316 N. Academy St. The conceptual plans will be presented by staff, who will also be available to answer questions following the formal presentation. The three schematics, which were reviewed at a January 19 work session by the Cary Town Council, illustrate a standard marquee, a marquee with a vertical element and a light enhanced marquee with a vertical element. The Town Council decided to move forward with the last option. Following input from the public meeting, staff will work with consultants on the selected forms and then make final design recommendations for materials and color to Town Council, who will consider a measure to adopt the plan at a later meeting.
“The transformation of Cary’s downtown into a viable entertainment district is a major priority and the renovation of the downtown theater is an important step in achieving this,” said Eric Simpson, an engineer with the Town of Cary.
Last summer, the Town purchased the 7,000 square foot movie theater at 122 E. Chatham Street as part of its plan to revitalize downtown Cary. After the public meeting, the Town Council may choose the final design this spring, with project completion and theater dedication scheduled for August 2013.
